Emergency Library Board Meeting on Porn for Minors
Friday, 2/4 at 3:00pm at the Fishers Library. Please attend if possible!
The Library Board has called a meeting to deal with the issues I raised at their last two meetings. See here and here.
Please attend if you can. Public comment will be permitted. Some key points:
I am not asking that any books be removed from the library
I am not asking that any books be burned or otherwise destroyed
I agree with having a wide variety of materials, including sexual education materials, available at the public library
My objection is to shelving explicit pornography in the Teen Zone, where 11 year olds are encouraged to freely explore
This particular pornography was written by a self-described pervert, and it tells kids to seek out further porn online and to talk to strangers about sexual “kinks”
I have asked that two titles be removed from the Teen Zone and placed in the Adult section
I do not say that I have the right to determine what your child reads; it is your business what you check out from the Adult section for your child
I have asked that Edra Waterman be removed from HEPL because of her bizarre view of what materials are appropriate for 11-year-old kids, which demonstrates gross incompetence and jeopardizes public confidence in the library leadership.
Please attend this meeting even if you do not plan to offer public comments. A short comment stating that you oppose porn in the Teen Zone is also welcome. But please show up and stand up for what is right. This is not a partisan issue. Let’s call these folks back from this crazy error in judgment.
